Pura Tirta Empul is a very special place to visit and one of the temples that will give a true Bali experience. Located 20 minutes north of Ubud in the village of Tampaksiring.
In Balinese language Tirta is holy water and Empul is spring or fountain, the Balinese Hindu people believe that a visit to this 11th century temple can clear chakras and bad energy via water blessing and purification. The clearing of the mind and soul helps follow the belief of creating good karma for a better life. The holy springs fill a bathing area where the water blessing ritual takes place. There are 13 beautiful fountains in three separate pond each having a special purpose. This is the most powerful temple in Bali for water purification as the natural spring water is so close to the bathing area.
Your Balinese guide is from Tampaksiring, he will make all the preparations for the water blessing, explain the history of the temple and guide you following the local Balinese ritual (not a modified or shortened version for tourists). When following the ritual you begin cleansing your body in the pond representing past life, followed by present life and finishing with future life.
